Commemorating the centenary of the 1914-1918 Great War, Travel Pics remembers.

Assassination

The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie in Sarajevo on 28th June, 1914, is widely seen as the spark that ignited the flames of a First World War.

Once a summer residence of the imperial family, Artstetten Castle (open Apr-Nov) is the final resting place of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie Duchess of Hohenberg.
